Garrison Springs Creek Restoration

Garrison Springs Creek is a fresh water stream that flows into Chamber’s Bay. For over a century, the creek was hidden away due to industrial use; buried in concrete and culverted beneath a former paper mill.

Today, our team’s restoration efforts aim to uncover and revitalize the creek, reestablishing it as a thriving natural habitat—particularly for salmon and other native species, while contributing to the ecological health of the broader watershed.

Project Support

Garrison Springs creek is a collaborative public private partnership with the town of Steilacoom, which has been instrumental to the restoration effort which includes:

  • Dam removal upstream

  • Near shore restoration at Chambers Bay

  • Implementation of fish-passable culvert

  • Creation of pocket estuary channeling into the bay

This project has secured both state and federal funding, with additional support from key regional partners including Forterra, the Salmon Habitat Recovery Program, and Pierce County. Grant funding is expected to be deployed beginning in late 2025, enabling the next phase of planning and on-the-ground restoration work. This effort reflects a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and the long-term ecological health of the Chamber’s Bay area.
